Kelly Cutrone Believes in Adult ToysIn last night's episode of Kell on Earth, Kelly went shopping at Babeland for Adult Toys. Turns out that clip was going to appear online only until Kelly called Bravo and asked them to put it on TV. "It was important to me that we spread the message that shopping for Adult Toys is okay," she told "Page Six." "I thought it was perfect. This isn't something we should be ashamed to discuss." And Kelly, who is apparently well-versed in Adult Toys, is not ashamed to discuss them.In an interview on Babeland's blog, Kelly remembers: A good friend of mine gave me an anal dilator once, which I had to put in my bag as I was going through security at the Milan airport. I’m the first person at the gate, and behind me are two amazingly hot, ***y Italian business men. Sure enough, the security guy opens up my bag, pulls out the anal toy, and says “Signora, you cannot go on the plane with this, this is a weapon.” Clearly the two Italian guys knew what is was and were ready to ask me out on a date. But I grabbed the toy back, and said “I’m a fashion producer, I suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, and I need it to do my job.” And off I went through the gate! Kelly adds, "Our show is about women and power, and now housewives are going to watch me shopping for Adult Toys, and see it as a fun and celebratory thing." When her daughter is a few years older, she will be so glad to read all this. Fake Viagra made of bird droppingsThe main ingredient in fake Viagra seized by New Zealand customs officers was guano – bat and bird droppings – a newspaper reported on Saturday.Other medicines intercepted contained whole insects, dust mites, hair and charcoal, Dallas Mildenhall, principal scientist at the state-owned GNS Science research organisation, told The Press, of Christchurch. The paper said a Viagra pill could cost about 25 New Zealand dollars ($17) in New Zealand, but they could be ordered on the internet for just $1 to $2. “It’s a big public safety risk,” Clare Strachan, a researcher at Otago University, said. She said a study of intercepted imported medicines found many were mouldy and contained more or less than the amount of medication stated on the packet, while some contained a completely different drug than the one ordered. Cops summoned over forgotten adult toyBerlin - A woman in Germany phoned police after hearing "suspicious noises" in her flat, but much to her embarrassment officers found the source was a vibrator, authorities said on Friday. The noise was so loud and strange, even over the telephone, that police in Bochum in western Germany decided to send a patrol car around to the "scene of the crime", a statement said. "Daringly, and with the occupier's permission, one of the officers opened the drawer of a wardrobe where the noise was coming from. "Underneath some clothes he found a very personal, battery-operated object which had obviously switched itself on... The tenant's face abruptly changed colour." Needed in D.C.: A Viagra pill for backbonesWhat the White House needs is a good alchemist. Not a magician who can turn lead into gold, but a practitioner of the chemical arts who can formulate a new Viagra pill to stiffen backbones.Obama and team seem incapable of taking firm stands. They see a problem, address it in the boldest of terms, suggest stout action — then immediately droop into limp compromises, before shriveling into pathetic appeasements. Take America's worsening job crisis. Nearly 15 million people are unemployed, with 40 percent of them mired in long-term joblessness. Obama has eloquently addressed their plight and rightly proposed a $266-billion national emergency response to put these folks to work. But he quickly caved into do-nothing Republican ideologues, compromising his bill to mush in order to win a few GOP votes. To appease them, he had to slash his jobs investment from $266 billion to $15 billion — a puny response that, at best, will create only 250,000 of the millions of jobs America needs. Likewise, responding to the public's fury toward Wall Street bankers who are paying themselves billions of dollars in bonuses after wrecking our economy, Obama went after the greedheads, demanding firm restrictions to rein in "obscene" executive pay. Again, however, Republicans refused to back real reform, so Obama has now shrunk from any boldness, meekly abandoning his moral outrage in order to beg for the wimpiest of wrist slaps on the miscreant bankers. "I, like most of the American people," Obama weakly explains, "don't begrudge people success or wealth. That is part of the free market system." Hello ... Wall Street's bailout and luxurious bonuses didn't come from the "free market" — they came from us taxpayers. Come on, Obama, grow a spine! Don't just talk about change, dare to stand up for it. Pharma desire for "female Viagra" excites passionThe little blue pill made by U.S. ***** giant Pfizer (PFE.N) revolutionized many men's otherwise lackluster *** lives, and the chance that a similar pill could do the same for female libido has dollar signs flashing in drug developers' eyes.Yet the strength of desire expressed by the current leader in this race, Germany's Boehringer Ingelheim and its experimental drug flibanserin, is exciting passions of a different kind among some women's health experts. A Boehringer-funded survey released last week sought to show the emotional impact and distress caused by low ***ual desire. But it angered critics, who say it is evidence of the firm's bid to market low female libido as a disorder, which threaten to pigeonhole the problem and make women feel deficient. "The idea that a lack of interest in *** should be immediately approached with a pill means the multiple contributory factors to ***ual problems may well be missed -- resulting in any medication being largely ineffective," said Lisa Martinez, founder of the Women's Sexual Health Foundation, an international advocacy group based in the United States. "A medication may be the right treatment, but it may not, depending on what is truly the cause of the low desire. If a woman is exhausted and stressed and needs help taking care of the children, a pill is not the answer. The answer is to minimize the exhaustion and to get help with the children." Boehringer says it happened upon the libido effects of flibanserin, a serotonin modulator, while investigating the chemical as an anti-depressant. Labeling LOW LIBIDO Martinez and others are worried about the over-medicalization of *** -- a phenomenon which could drown modern bedrooms with patented pills, potions and creams. U.S. drug firm BioSante (BPAX.O), which is also working on treatments to boost low desire in women, reckons the potential market for female ***ual dysfunction in the U.S. alone could be worth more than $2 billion in annual sales. Part of the process of capturing that market is the labeling of symptoms that have lurked for generations, defining them in clinical terms and hence making them more likely to be seen as requiring a clinical response. An example of this came last week when Boehringer released data from a European survey -- called Desire and its Effects on Female Sexuality Including Relationships or DESIRE -- which it said showed women with low libido and associated distress suffered personal, emotional impact from their ***ual problems. Alongside the survey was an announcement from a U.S. commercial research organization that it was setting up a "register of Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD)" to help scientists better understand female ***ual health problems. Sheryl Kingsberg, a professor in reproductive biology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, said in a commentary on the survey that it was important for women's lack of desire to be given recognition. "Many of the women I see with HSDD experience a high level of guilt and feelings of confusion," she wrote. "They also complain about the distance they feel between themselves and their partner. The emotional impact of HSDD is significant." FEMINIST DISCOURSE? But Petra Boynton, a social psychologist at University College London, questioned the study and its findings, noting that it approached over 60,000 women across Europe but only 11 percent were classed as having a problem, and that was after responding to what she said were "leading" diagnostic questions. "Unfortunately with this study, and many others like it, the tools used are designed specifically for the drug funded research," she told Reuters. "Getting hold of actual surveys is very difficult and sharing of research information -- something that is usually standard scientific practice -- is limited." Boynton accused the drug industry of seeking to "reclaim a feminist discourse" by arguing that women's ***uality has been largely ignored by scientific research, and their efforts are redressing the balance. "In truth there is lots of detailed and interesting research on women's ***uality that specifically addresses the many issues that may cause low ***ual desire -- like pregnancy, menopause, bereavement, divorce, a lack of privacy, or poor body image. "It is completely wrong to set this up as a 'battle of the ***es debate' or imply women aren't studied, or that female ***uality isn't interesting." Yet such concerns are unlikely to dampen desire among drugmakers to define, and then seek to treat, low female libido. Besides Boehringer's big hope flibanserin -- which in a six-month trial increased the number of satisfying ***ual events to an average 4.5 per month from 2.8 in American women, compared with an average of 3.7 for those taking placebo -- there are trials looking at the effects of a testosterone skin gel Libigel, from BioSante, on women's desire. [ID:nSGE61L0J3] And Procter & Gamble's (PG.N) Intrinsa testosterone patches are already licensed for female ***ual dysfunction in Europe but not in the U.S., where a regulatory panel voted against them in 2004, citing lack of evidence for their long-term safety. The Obvious Causes of Hair Loss in WomenMany women and even young girls are concerned with women hair loss. The medical term for hair loss in general is alopecia. It is defined as loosing hair from the body and head in severe cases even leading to baldness. There are many medical reasons that can contribute to hair loss and several types of common alopeca.Hair Loss due Hormonal Imbalance One cause of hair loss can be hormonal imbalances. Excessive levels of male hormones, such as testosterone can cause androgenic alopecia, or female pattern hairloss. DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a male hormone that can cause the follicles to shrink, is another example of a hormones causing hair loss. Hair Loss due to Stress and Psychological reasons Another cause of hair loss can be traced to psychological reasons or excessive stress, traumatic events or injuries. This is medically described as Telogen effluvium and causes the hair to “age prematurely”. A normal hair has a growth cycle of 2-6 years before falling out and being replaced. In people who suffers of Telogen effluvium the hair follicle ages much faster and the hair falls out before the cycle is complete resulting in hair loss. Hair Loss due to Hair Style Excessive styling, dying, chemical applications to the hair can also cause hair loss. Continuous exposure to traction on the hair shaft, such as wearing a tight ponytails or pulled back hair style for long periods of time can cause traction alopecia. This can be a particular problem for woman used to wearing their hair in braided styles over long period of times. Often, the effects of this can be reversed over time once the damaging treatment ceases. Hair Loss due to Medical Treatment Many are also familiar with woman suffering from hair loss as a result of medical treatments, such as chemotherapy. Aggressive medical treatments are often aimed at destroying cells in the body which divide rapidly, such as cancer cells. The ***** do not distinguish between those and other cells in the body, which are programmed to reproduce fast, such as hair follicles. This can lead to sufferers losing their hair. This process is usually reversed after the treatment has been stopped. Regardless it can be one of the most traumatic side effects, especially for woman patients. Beautiful hair is part of a woman’s overall appearance and most women spend time and money to ensure their locks enhance their good looks and attractiveness. Hair loss in women can therefore be a particularly traumatic event to cope with, resulting in loss of self confidence and withdrawal from daily life. BwogSex: adult Toys 101“So what is it that we like about vibrators?” Not a typical question for your typical RA function, but last night the RAs of Harmony Hall invited Dallas, BC ’04 (a former well-woman and current employee of Babeland, a local *** store chain) to raise this and other questions to their residents. Somehow, none of the sixteen students in attendance seemed the least fidgety or uncomfortable as we embarked on a discussion of the veritable Willy Wonka’s Wanking Factory that is the modern array of Adult Toys. Why do we like vibrators? Beyond enjoying novel sensations and textures, the 8,000 nerve endings clustered into the clitoris loves repetitive motions. Fears of being usurped in the bedroom are unfounded: the vibrator adds a new sensation, but does not supplant the joys of an old one. Those still uncomfortable, but open to the concept of bringing marital aids into the bedroom should consider egg vibrators which allow one party to experience the vibrations and another to control its speed and power remotely. Many internal vibrators are built with a two-inch curve at the head so as to hit the G-spot in women, which, Dallas argues, does exist – it is the area within the first one or two inches of the vagina bordering the urethral sponge and connected to the nerve roots of the clitoris. As erectile tissue, this zone is hard to find in cold clinical studies, hence the difficulty of proving its existence by conventional means, and being harder than the rest of the vaginal walls, it prefers a firmer material than external stimulation. Hence while it is possible to use internal vibrators for external purposes (although not always visa versa), it is not necessarily right or pleasant for many women. Some devices, though, like The Rabbit, featured on Sex and the City, offer both external and multiple internal stimulations, but this may be an overwhelming sensation for some women and should not (as Dallas claims so often happens) be the sole choice of vibrator just because of its presence on a popular and liberating television program. Male-oriented pleasure toys including masturbation sleeves – tight, resistant and textured casings that hug and mold around the penis. With lube, these devices are “tight, wet and warm, which really at the end of the day is what the penis is trying to get to.” Dallas also recommends that men seeking to explore their genders’ *** toy options consider a vibrating cock ring. The principle of the cock ring is as such: blood enters near the shaft of the penis, but leaves closer to the skin, so a snug fitting ring can trap in blood and lead to a firmer and reportedly more sensitive erection. The addition of a vibrator to the mix can be used to stimulate the exterior and clitoris during *** with a partner, or placed between the testicles and anus to stimulate the little-known, but highly sensitive and sensual male pleasure zone known as the perineum. And for those interested in a more his-and-hers *** toy, Dallas recommends exploring anal play, which, contrary to some popular portrayal, can be enjoyed by people of all genders and orientations. The anus, after all, contains nearly as many nerve endings as the clitoris, provides eight inches of clean, pristine rectum before reaching the colon where feces is stored, and offers a platform from which to stimulate the G-spot on women and the prostate (born of the same embryonic tissue as the G-spot) in men, hence the curve in anal toys. As Dallas says, “the ass is the equal opportunity orifice,” we all have it and we can all listen to it and know what is good for it. Two cautions, though, in using anal toys: First, a vibrator cannot simply be used as an anal toy because the sphincter muscles, strong clinchers that they are, tend to quickly suck up inserted objects, so a toy without a long handle or flared end can easily result in an embarrassing and uncomfortable visit to St. Luke’s. And second, the rectal walls are more sensitive and fragile than vaginal walls, so Dallas recommends that one keep in mind Babeland’s anal mantra when exploring this type of pleasure: “relaxation, communication, lubrication.” Columbians are, assuredly, familiar with lubrication – household lotions and Vaseline can be great for aiding casual male masturbation. But always keep in mind that such things were not meant to go into the more sensitive internal tissues and can cause infections. Likewise, their compositions often assist in degrading the integrity of a condom, completely negating safe ***. So how does one lubricate? There exist two types of lubricants in this world that are ***ually safe – water-based and silicone. A water-based lubricant simulates approximately the consistency of naturally produced vaginal fluids and evaporates naturally. Silicone lubricants on the other hand are slicker, non-evaporative, and must be wiped away at the end of use. However much of what is available at Duane Reade will have a distinct smell or taste, may contain sugar-bases that feed yeast infections and could be degrading to latex condoms, and/or are just plain irritating. Those wishing to avoid such side effects should consider the value of pleasure and look into higher-quality hypoallergenic lubricants with no taste or smell. One RA noted that interested students should look into the progressive free hypoallergenic lubricant samples offered by Columbia Health Services. Score one ***ual point for Columbia. Dallas believes that the last five or so years have witnessed a slight revolution in Adult Toys, with more serious designers creating safer, better designed products. These new devices last longer, feel better, and, in the case of vibrators, can provide a variety of speeds and pulses in recognition that one size does not fit all. But many of these are more costly and harder to find at conventional *** shops. Don’t rush in, don’t accept just anything. Take the time to explore your own body and what brings it pleasure, and then shop around to make sure you are getting the best deal, the best sensation, and the best safety. Be well, never jeopardize your body, and never be petrified – millions of years of evolution have led us to this state of ***ual pleasure and experience. Cancer-awareness health fair draws crowdScenic Ford-Lincoln-Mercury’s showroom normally is filled with expensive new vehicles, but on Saturday about 20 local agencies were in their place offering the public free cancer-awareness information that could prove priceless.Tammy Manuel of Pilot Mountain, for one, got a real education on the dangers of radon in homes during the Surry Cancer Awareness Team Health Hair. She was surprised to learn that the naturally occurring radioactive gas is the second-leading cause of lung cancer and results in thousands of deaths annually. “I’ve never heard anything about radon before,” Manuel said while checking out brochures and other materials on the subject at a table set up by the Surry office of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service. “I didn’t really know the risks.” Manuel was told that radon-detection kits are available for about $13, and are “absolutely easy” to use, according to Carolyn Largen, a Surry Cancer Awareness Team member who was assisting with the Extension Service display. Largen showed Manuel a map indicating that western North Carolina counties have a moderate-to-high potential for radon compared to eastern North Carolina because of their predominantly granite bedrock. In another section of the showroom, Sarah Dodd, 13, and Mattie Holder, 12, both of Mount Airy, were sampling finger foods from a platter containing such items as broccoli. It was at a station operated by Lowes Foods to stress the role of eating healthily in preventing cancer and other diseases. “We’ve learned a lot of different stuff today,” Dodd said. “We’ve learned about taking care of your body and eating nutritiously.” She and Holder also assisted with Saturday’s event in their role as Girl Scouts, and said they enjoyed the opportunity to help spread information that could save lives. Largen, herself a breast cancer survivor, said organizers of Saturday’s fair sought to focus on the health of every part of the body and include someone at the event to address each area. Surry County Health and Nutrition Center personnel were on hand to administer free H1N1 vaccines, and the cancer-awareness group sponsored prostate-specific antigen tests for men 50 and older and blood-glucose tests at no charge. Mount Airy OB/GYN provided blood-pressure checks. Judy Smith, Surry Cancer Awareness Team president, said the goal of Saturday’s event overall was to stress the message “that early detection is the best protection against cancer.” Along with raising awareness about the disease, it served as a local kickoff for an upcoming Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Winston-Salem in May. Scenic Ford-Lincoln-Mercury hosted the fair due to Ford Motor Co. being a national Race for the Cure sponsor. The health fair, though not conducted in 2009, has been held for five years in all, and the room seemed to stay full most of the time on Saturday during its four-hour run ending at 1 p.m. Attendance was estimated at more than 200. “A lot of people think information is hard to get, but it’s not,” retired Boy Scout executive Phillip Thompson of Elkin said of the opportunities presented at Saturday’s fair after visiting the various stations. Thompson said he appreciated the dealership’s hosting of the event. Also involved were the local chapter of the American Red Cross, Reeves Community Center, Pro Health, the Surry EMS, Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and various local medical offices and businesses, among others. “It’s a good service for people,” Sarah Stevens said of Saturday’s health fair. “It’s something they get for free.” Stevens was there with fellow attorney Sharon Lowe offering free medical powers of attorney and living wills, which declare people’s desire for a natural death. Rebecca Bobbitt of Clemmons also attended on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Carolinas Chapter to talk about that disease affecting both the lungs and digestive system. Bobbitt said many people have little knowledge of that illness, which her daughter Caroline, now 16, was diagnosed with 18 months ago. Before eating, the teen must take five enzyme pills, and swallows 35 to 40 pills per day in all. She also uses a special vest at times which vibrates her breast in order to prevent blockages from forming in her lungs and subsequently clogging the pancreas. Mentioning that the median life expectancy for cystic fibrosis sufferers is 37, Bobbitt said she was at the Mount Airy health fair to build awareness about the ailment and urge the public to make contributions toward a cure. Ninety percent of all donations are devoted to research, she said. Johnny Solomon of Scenic Ford-Lincoln-Mercury is a longtime salesman who didn’t seem to mind Saturday’s focus on disease-prevention rather than his normal job of trying to move vehicles from the dealership. Solomon explained that Scenic Ford officials wanted to make the public aware of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure also having a local sponsor in the form of the Rockford Street dealership. Despite the economy and recent troubles in the auto industry, Solomon said Ford remains healthy as a company and Scenic Ford-Lincoln-Mercury remains healthy as a dealership and continuing to do its part for the community. “The parking lot’s been full all day,” he said. Vail Valley Bizwatch: Hair stylist Sandi PlottWhat goods or services do you provide? I'm a hair stylist and barber. What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? I just try to make my customers happy. I want to be light and uplifting when they're in my chair. I think 85 to 90 percent of the reason people come back to a barber is the person, not the job they do. People want to feel good about themselves, they want to leave happy, so however they want their hair cut is how I cut it. What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? I go out of my way to do what the customer wants. I listen. Communication is the key to this business. Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: My dad was a hair stylist — Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis was one of his clients — so I grew up in the business. I've been cutting hair professionally for 21 years now, and I'm licensed in Colorado, Connecticut and North Carolina. I owned my own shop — in Eagle and Gypsum — for 13 years before selling my shop last year because of health reasons. When I first opened, I believed that a barbershop was the community of customers, not the person who owns it. What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? I was cutting a customer's hair once and left him a little tail off the back. With his kids there, I colored it pink without him knowing it. I cut it off right away, but people still call him “Pinky!” Dermatology Study Identifies Genetic Key In Treatment Of Female Hair Losstoday announced the results of a six month pilot study that presents, for the first time, evidence that genetic mechanisms may predict treatment response to Finasteride for postmenopausal female Androgenetic Alopecia (female hair loss).“While Finasteride therapy in men has proven very effective in treating Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness), there have been frustratingly few therapies for the treatment of hair loss in women. Results of our pilot study are very encouraging, as it appears we have found a key piece of the genetic puzzle which identifies women who can benefit from Finasteride therapy in the same way men do. Our findings suggest these women actually have a female corollary to male pattern hair loss (Androgenetic Alopecia), and that is an important finding,” says Dr. Sharon Keene, Chief Medical Officer of HairDX. “Once these results are confirmed, it can usher in a new era of treatment for female Androgenetic Alopecia.” “The double-blinded placebo study followed a small cohort of postmenopausal female patients suffering from Androgenetic Alopecia for a period of six months. Using a genetic technique patented by HairDX, we were able to identify women that benefited from Finasteride by experiencing a significant increase in hair counts,” says Andy Goren, Chief Executive Officer. New Hair Loss Treatment Clinical TrialsThe thinning hair experts from the UK - Nanogen are planning to be involved in no less than 4 clinical trials in 3 countries, involving both the increasingly popular Scalproller device and other cutting edge therapeutic techniques. Nanogen widens their scope for hair loss treatment, becoming involved with large scale clinical trials for the extremely promising Platelet Rich Plasma treatment. Platelet Rich Plasma therapy received much applause when early results found it could not only improve hair growth and survival of transplanted hair, but also re-grew hair in a patient with Alopecia Areata. Nanogen hopes to be able to reinforce these early findings with larger trials, and contribute to newer growth-factor hair loss treatments. Other trials with Nanogen’s hair growth maintenance range are planned but details are not yet available. Aside from research with existing products, Nanogen is collaborating with the University of Bonn to produce an accurate genetic test for hair loss, and has an exclusive agreement with researchers in Bonn to use chromosome 20 as the basis for a test to predict hair loss, as well as accurately diagnose Androgenetic Alopecia patients. The company also plans to further bolster their professional background with the formation of a dedicated Expert Panel of hair transplant surgeons, trichologists, dermatologists and even grooming experts to advise and contribute to current and future hair loss research. The bald truth about hair lossMOST men, some women, and even children have to endure thinning hair or baldness, and sometimes a loss of confidence or embarrassment. Friends may joke but for some it can be an emotional crisis.Skin specialists say scalp hair loss can provoke more distress than many severe skin conditions but often is not taken seriously enough. The scalp has around 100,000 hairs, growing about 1cm a month. Most people lose around 100 a day without even noticing, as new hairs replace them. But renewal slows down as we age. Hair loss or baldness, known as alopecia, is usually gradual. It may be patchy or all over. It is not usually due to disease or excessive hair loss but rather the hair follicles get tired and fail to grow new hairs quickly, thickly and long enough to replace lost ones. Male-pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) – characterised by a receding hairline and thinning crown – is the most common type and is hereditary and normal. It can begin before a man reaches 20. One in four men are balding by 30 and about two-thirds are bald or balding by 60. Gradual hair loss in men and women is usually due to a rebalanced metabolism of androgen hormones – testosterone is one. For women, hair normally thins after the age of 50. Considerable hair loss before that is quite rare unless there is a health reason, such as an ovarian cyst, pregnancy or childbirth, even the pill can affect some women. For 12 weeks after childbirth, hair shedding may speed up as the mother's hormones rebalance, but after six months it should be back to normal. For these women, the hair usually thins across the entire scalp, is temporary and generally leaves the front hairline intact. You can do nothing about your age and genes but you can change your diet, make lifestyle choices, review medicines, hair care products and styling. Sudden loss of hair or hair coming out in clumps can be due to burns, infection, thyroid disease, chemotherapy, crash diets, medicines, excess vitamin A, severe stress or illness or surgery. It should be checked out by your GP. Remedies depend on the type of hair loss. Some products available online should not be used by women or children and can have effects for some men. Child hair loss is usually from scalp ringworm, easily treated with antifungal medicines. Hair loss in adolescence may be due to poor diet such as lack of protein or depression or stress. Hair loss isn't just a nuisance... it's a signal to head to the doctorHair loss may sound relatively minor but it is both distressing and common. It should always be investigated, as it can be revealing in regard to your general state of health.Q: I knew I would lose hair after the birth of my child but it's still falling out nearly a year on - why? A: General diffuse hair loss after pregnancy is normal and usually occurs between four and ten months after giving birth as oestrogen levels drop. It can continue for longer, but do see your GP as it may be a sign of an iron deficiency or thyroid problem. Q: My hair is coming out in patches. Is this stress? A: Not normally. Stressrelated hair loss tends to be general, not patchy. More likely causes would be fungal infections such as ringworm or hairstyles that pull the hair too tight - known as traction alopecia. A relatively common cause of patchy hair loss is alopecia areata, which can also result in total baldness. Q: I think I have alopecia areata. What can be done? A: While distressing, this resolves spontaneously in three to six months, so many GPs would advocate watching and waiting. If treatment is to be started, you can use lotions containing minoxidil (Regaine) or your doctor may prescribe topical steroids. Many will try an antifungal shampoo first, as fungal infections can mimic this type of alopecia. Q: My hair is thinning and my skin is dry - do I have a thyroid problem? A: Thyroid disorders do cause hair and skin problems. An underactive thyroid tends to cause hair to grow much more slowly and become coarse. Hair loss can be patchy and the skin dry and scaly. An overactive thyroid would be more likely to cause diffuse hair loss. Thyroid problems can be diagnosed by a simple blood test. Q: Could my blood-thinning tablets cause hair loss? A: Yes - it is associated with the blood-thinning ***** warfarin and heparin. Many medicines can cause hair loss, including those that treat gout and thyroid problems, as well as the contraceptive Pill. The evolution of adult toysFrom a siltstone phallus dating back 30,000 years, through the steam-powered 'manipulator', right up to the sophisticated all-singing, all-dancing toys that reside under today's beds, adult toys have caused a stir throughout the ages.adult toys through the ages Evidence suggests that the very first dildos were made from such uncomfortable materials as stone, tar and wood and that - far from being kept a secret - they were celebrated in art and culture. The art on some Greek vases features females indulging in phallus-assisted masturbation, and such objects were apparently used as material in the staged comedy of 6th century BC. The first motorised adult toy, the unnervingly-named 'manipulator', consisted of a table with a cut-out area for a woman's pelvis and a vibrating sphere driven by a steam engine. It was introduced in 1870 as a medical tool used to treat women with 'hysteria'. At the time it was believed that the womb wandered around the body and gripped the windpipe at orgasm, causing breathlessness, and that a blockage of the womb caused the nervous condition - indeed the term itself comes from the Greek for the womb: 'hysteros'. After realising that bringing women to orgasm by hand was a timely exercise, doctors brought in a machine to do the job for them. By the early 1880s the first battery-driven vibrators had arrived on the scene and with advances in technology, American company Hamilton Beach was able to patent the first electric vibrator in 1902. Such new adult toys were advertised in mainstream magazines targeted at housewives until their appearance in ****ography in the 1920s meant that polite society could no longer avoid their overt association with adultual activity. Scandal and prohibition The next major landmark on the road to the Rampant Rabbit vibrator came in 1966, when American ventriloquist Ted Marche began manufacturing and distributing rubber adult toys. By 1976, Marche Manufacturing had sold nearly 5 million dildos, although not everyone was willing to welcome them into mainstream society. In 1973, a law was passed in Texas banning the sale of dildos - it was only repealed in 2008, and adult shops were being raided as recently as 2007. In 2004 CNN.com reported that a mother of three faced "trial for being a smut merchant" after she was caught selling adult toys to undercover police in the state. In 2007, the US Supreme Court also declined to hear a challenge to the ban on the sale of adult toys in Alabama, which was passed in 1998. Sherri Williams, owner of Pleasures Stores, expressed her frustration at the decision, saying: "My motto has been they are going to have to pry this vibrator from my cold, dead hand. I refuse to give up," USAtoday.com reported. Building to a climax But nothing has been able to stop the rise of the vibrator over recent decades, as sophisticated motorised functions, textured surfaces and the introduction of different colours, sizes and designs have made them a must-have item for single women and couples alike. Ann Summers now stocks over 90 different adult toys including, of course, the world's best-selling adult toy. The Rampant Rabbit now boasts 10 variations; the most recent innovations targeting the G-spot and providing a realistic thrusting motion. So, with adult toys no longer taboo, it only remains to choose from the wide range you'll find at Ann Summers - what will tickle your fancy? Prevent Hair Loss with Biotin and Other NutrientsHair loss is a natural process that progresses with age, but many nutrients have been shown to improve circulation to the scalp, prevent hair thinning and hair loss. Adding simple nutrients from food and vitamins can both repair hair and help to regrow hair, starting at the roots. Biotin is an important nutrient to help prevent hair loss. Genetics play a part in predicting who will lose hair and when, but diet can delay or prevent hair loss and age-related balding. Treatments applied topically, such as hair masks, conditioners and vitamin treatments can also help but the best results occur when nutrients such as biotin are added to the diet.Biotin Biotin or Vitamin B7 (originally known as vitamin H) is one of the components of the B complex of vitamins. Biotin is required to turn sugar into energy. It is also part of the pathway for synthesizing fat in the body because it enables the function of the enzyme acetyl Co-A carboxylase, which builds fat molecules, and fat is an important component in the walls of every cell. Biotin is especially important to the skin cells as they are frequently replaced due to their exposure to the outside environment. Symptoms of biotin deficiency are cradle cap in infants and seborrheic dermatitis in adults. Biotin also protects the nervous system, preventing seizures, ataxia and loss of muscle tone. Biotin has been shown to regrow hair and even reverse premature graying. An added benefit to biotin supplementation is a reduction in stress reactions, as biotin is also an important component of the nerves. Stress can cause hair loss, so adding biotin to the diet gives protection both to the hair follicles and to the nerves that support their proper function. Dosage of Biotin Daily doses as high as 60 mg a day can be taken for long periods, as there have not been any reports of biotin toxicity. Studies with biotin supplementation of 500 mg a day have shown results in hair restoration and reversal of hair graying. Other Nutrients Needed for Hair Growth Other nutrients are also needed to spur hair growth, especially those that are a part of the hair itself. Silica is one of these components and can be added to the diet by eating grains such as rice and oats. Protein is also needed to grow healthy hair. The addition of iron to the diet spurs hair growth as well. Iron deficiency, or anemia, can cause hair to fall out. Another important nutrient for hair growth is vitamin E. Vitamin E stimulates the circulation and improves both heart health and hair health. 14 Home Remedies For Hair Loss1)Take a pot of water and soak few fenugreek seeds in it. Viagra for lifeFURNITURE retailer Courts Jamaica Limited has agreed to cover the future cost of Viagra for a 26-year-old man, to whom it was recently ordered by the High Court to make a hefty multimillion-dollar payment in damages.Courts is to foot Viagra cost for Kenroy Biggs to the tune of $1.53 million, a figure that has been affirmed by Justice Bryan Sykes in a ruling late last month. Overall, Courts is to shell out $45.85 million in damages to Biggs plus legal costs. Biggs of Cane River, St Andrew, suffers from permanent erectile dysfunction and his whole person has been impaired by "55 per cent" as a result of a Courts truck crashing into him seven years ago. Biggs also lost part of his left leg by way of amputation. Biggs was hit by the truck and pinned to a wall while walking in his Cane River community on the night of March 23, 2003. He was 19-years-old at the time. This marked the beginning of several years of medical procedures, which included urethra surgeries in the United States, along with persistent back and other pains. Biggs later filed suit against Courts to recover damages. The company later agreed to some of the damages sought by Biggs, including his Viagra expenses. During the assessment of damages hearing before Sykes in December last year, medical evidence was given that Biggs suffered "significant erectile dysfunction" for which Viagra was prescribed. Another medical report states that Biggs suffers from depression as a result of the trauma of the accident and the constant worry that he may not be able to engage in ***ual relations or father a child. According to the medical report, Biggs is functioning at "65 per cent of his full overall psychological capacity". Sykes, in making the award, lamented Biggs' plight. "In light of what has been said, I feel that a sum of $18 million is appropriate compensation for pain, suffering and loss of amenities. This head of damages covers physical as well as psychological suffering," Sykes wrote. Added Sykes: "Mr Biggs has permanent urological damage. There is the permanent problem of stricture of his urethra, which can only be relieved by the painful insertion of catheters. Mr Biggs has permanent erectile dysfunction. He has lost a leg." { Last Page } { Page 1 of 12 } { Next Page } |
